Power Kites, where to start?

Choosing your power kite

Power KitesWhen choosing which power kite is right for you, there are many elements to consider. First of which is whether you are going to go the dual line route or the quad line route. Dual line power kites are aimed at beginners because of their ease of flying and uncomplicated controls. It is very similar to the principals of riding a bike, you pull the left handle to make the kite go left and pull the right handle to make the kite go right. Dual lines do have their downfalls though, for one they are very hard to launch on your own and also quite hard to land without crashing. Both of these are due to the fact that dual lines do not have brakes and so you cannot control the speed of the kite. The alternative is to choose a quad line power kite, these are slightly more complex to fly but can be mastered very easily, they also tend to be quite a bit larger than dual liners and so should not be used by children. The extra two lines on a quad line power kite are the brakes, these lines, when pulled, control the speed and pull of the kite. This makes the kite easier to control and also means that self-launches are a doddle as is landing the kite.

Extra Equipment

Any extra equipment is really down to you, however there are a few pieces of safety gear that we really recommend you purchase.

Kite Killers (Only when flying quad line)

Kite killers are safety straps which allow you to let go of the kite straps in case of an emergency. They can be connected to your wrists. They can give you great comfort and peace of mind while flying a kite.

Kite Helmets

A Kite Helmet can not only protect your head from an impact, shocks and blows, but also keep your head warm while riding. It is especially advisable to wear a helmet when you are kite boarding or kite buggying.

Other accessories that you can purchase for your kite are harnesses, upgraded lines and handles, kite bags, protective pad sets and much more.
